How We Play

League Rules

Beer league lacrosse runs on respect, hustle, and the post-game beer. These are the rules that keep it that way.

Time

Four 15 min running clock quarters - 2 minutes between quarters, 4 minutes at half time. The clock converts to a stop clock for the last 2 minutes of the game if the winning team is ahead by 4 or less goals. All penalties are served at 1.5x except during the last 2 minutes of the game if it is stopped clock.

Last two minutes of the game

The clock becomes a stop clock if the winning team is ahead by 4 or less goals. All penalties are served at straight time if it is a stopped clock. If the winning team is ahead by 5 or more goals the clock stays running and all penalties remain 1.5x. If the winning team is leading by 4 or less goals, they must get in the box and stay in the box.

Faceoffs

New for 2026 Faceoffs are taken standing with a neutral grip. If a team is leading by 6 or more goals, the trailing team can elect to take possession of the ball instead of faceoff. Once the lead is less than 6, faceoff resumes.

Checks

Only poke, lift, and slap checks are allowed. No one handed checks. Any check in which the arm raises higher than the shoulder (chopping wood), or there is significant windup (baseball swing) will be called a slash and result in personal foul, regardless of contact with the stick or not. No body checks.

Player Conduct

Players are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship at all times. Players are expected to respect the referees, their teammates, the table crew, and the opposing team players. Arguing with referees, verbal or physical confrontations with players or referees, excessive use of force, and poor sportsmanship may result in ejection from the game and potential expulsion for the season without refund. Fighting will result in immediate ejection from the game, and expulsion for the rest of the season without refund. Be level headed. If things are getting heated do any or all of the following, get yourself a substitution, talk to the referee, talk to the opposing player, talk to the opposing team captain.

Overtime

If the game is tied at the end of regulation, one 5 minute overtime period will ensue if Field reservation time permits. There will be 1 minute from the end of regulation until overtime begins. The first 3 minutes are running clock, and the last 2 minutes are stop clock. The first goal wins. If there are no goals scored during the 5 minute overtime, the game will be scored as a tie. If field reservation time does not permit overtime, the game will be scored a tie.

Equipment

Every player is required to have standard lacrosse equipment. Helmet, gloves, shoulder/chest pads, elbow pads, athletic cup and supporter, as well as mouthguard. Every player is responsible for their own gear. No other person is responsible for checking to make sure you have all of the required equipment. Goalies are required to wear a Goalie Chest protector as well as throat guard. Unless otherwise specified, USA Lacrosse U14 rules will apply

Weather Cancellation Policy

A game(s) may be canceled or halted if dangerous weather conditions exist. Conditions such as but not limited to poor air quality, hail, lightning or other unforeseen dangerous weather conditions, game(s) may be canceled for player safety. If there is lightning in the area, players should seek shelter. No players will be allowed on the field until 30 minutes have elapsed since the most recent lightning strike. If time permits play may resume once weather is deemed safe by the referee and both team captains. One makeup week is built into the schedule. There will be no additional make-up games if more than one game is canceled due to weather. No refunds will be issued due to weather cancellations. Field and referee reservations are paid for at the beginning of the season and are non-refundable.
